Question 1

Is this Unlock PDF tool free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up and no account required. The limits listed below apply to every file.

Question 2

Is my PDF or password uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Your PDF and password are processed entirely in your browser using local WebAssembly and never uploaded. Neither your file contents nor your password are ever sent to any server or recorded anywhere.

Question 3

What are the limits?

Accepted Answer

The PDF can be up to 50 MB and 1,000 pages. These are practical processing limits for working in your browser, so a very large PDF can still be slow or fail on some devices.

Question 4

Can I unlock a PDF without a password?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if the PDF only has permission restrictions (such as printing or editing limits) and does not have an open password. If the file requires a password to open, you must provide that password.

Question 5

Can this tool recover or crack a forgotten password?

Accepted Answer

No. This tool only removes restrictions when you provide the correct password or when the file has owner-only permission restrictions. It does not perform password cracking or brute-force guessing.

Question 6

What happens to my original file?

Accepted Answer

Your original file is never modified or overwritten. The tool creates a new, unencrypted copy with -unlocked.pdf appended to the filename.
