Question 1

Is this Split PDF tool free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes — it's free, with no sign-up and no account. The size, page and file-count limits listed below apply to every split.

Question 2

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Question 3

What are the limits?

Accepted Answer

The PDF can be up to 50 MB and 1,000 pages. One split can create up to 200 files, 100 MB in total. These are practical processing limits for working in your browser, so a very large split can still be slow or fail on some devices.

Question 4

How do I split a PDF by page ranges?

Accepted Answer

Choose "By page ranges" and type the pages you want, separated by commas: for example 1-3, 5, 8-. Each item becomes its own PDF, in the order you typed it. A range ending in a hyphen, like 8-, runs to the last page. Overlapping ranges are allowed, and pages in more than one range appear in each of those files. Pages that are not in any range are left out.

Question 5

What is the difference between every N pages and each page separately?

Accepted Answer

"Every N pages" starts a new file after every N pages, so a 10-page PDF split every 3 pages gives files with pages 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10. "Each page separately" makes one file per page. When a split makes more than one file you can download them one at a time, or all together as a ZIP that is created in your browser. After each file is created it is opened again and its page count is compared with the pages you selected; if any file doesn't match, nothing from that split is offered for download.

Question 6

What does Split PDF not carry over?

Accepted Answer

Split PDF copies pages. Bookmarks, document properties such as title and author, page labels, and named destinations are not carried over. Fillable form fields may stop being fillable, and links that jump to another page inside a document may stop working. Web links are kept. Page sizes are preserved.

Question 7

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Accepted Answer

Not directly. A PDF that needs a password to open can't be read here, and some PDFs have security settings this tool can't process even when they open without one. You'll see a message explaining which applies.
