Question 1

Is this PDF to Image tool free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up and no account. The limits listed below apply to every conversion.

Question 2

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Your PDF is converted in your browser and never uploaded. The code that draws the pages, and the fonts it sometimes needs, are served from this site rather than from another company's server.

Question 3

What are the limits?

Accepted Answer

The PDF can be up to 50 MB and 1,000 pages. One run converts up to 50 pages, and the images can add up to 100 MB. These are practical processing limits for working in your browser, so a run can still be slow or fail on some devices.

Question 4

Should I choose JPG or PNG?

Accepted Answer

PNG is lossless, so text and line art stay sharp, and it can have a see-through background. JPG makes smaller files, with a quality setting, but it always has a white background and can blur fine text. If you aren't sure, start with PNG.

Question 5

Which pages can I convert, and how many at once?

Accepted Answer

Convert every page, or type a page range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Each page becomes one image, named after its page number. One run converts up to 50 pages. A larger selection is refused rather than cut short, so convert a longer PDF in parts, for example 1-50 and then 51-100. One image downloads on its own; several come as a ZIP, and each is also listed with its own download button.

Question 6

What do the scale and transparent background options do?

Accepted Answer

Scale sets how big each image is compared with the page: 1× is 72 dots per inch, 2× is about 144 and 3× about 216. Bigger scales make sharper, larger images. A page too large for your browser to draw at that scale is made smaller, with the same shape, and the result tells you which pages. By default pages are drawn on white, as in a PDF viewer. For PNG you can choose a transparent background, so the parts of the page that aren't painted are see-through. JPG can't be see-through.

Question 7

What doesn't this tool do?

Accepted Answer

It can't open a password-protected PDF or one with security restrictions, and it doesn't repair a damaged file. It turns pages into pictures, so the text in the images can no longer be selected or searched, and links and form fields don't work in them. It converts whole pages; it doesn't pull out the pictures that are embedded inside a PDF.
