Question 1

Is this Lorem Ipsum generator free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many times you use it.

Question 2

What is Lorem Ipsum?

Accepted Answer

It's the standard placeholder text the design and printing industries have used since the 1500s. It comes from a scrambled passage of Cicero's "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (45 BC), and it's useful precisely because it looks like prose without being readable — so people reviewing a layout judge the design instead of reading the copy.

Question 3

How does it count paragraphs, sentences, and words?

Accepted Answer

Exactly, and for whichever unit you pick. Ask for 10 paragraphs and you get 10; ask for 500 words and you get 500 space-separated words. The classic opener is counted within your requested amount rather than added on top of it.

Question 4

What does the classic opener option do?

Accepted Answer

With it on, the output begins with the familiar "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" passage. With it off, the text starts from a random point in the corpus instead — useful when you need several different-looking blocks on one page.

Question 5

What is the

tag option for?

Accepted Answer

It wraps each generated paragraph in a paragraph tag so you can paste the result straight into an HTML file. It's only offered in paragraph mode, since wrapping a single word or sentence wouldn't produce meaningful markup.

Question 6

Does this work offline?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the word list is bundled with the page, so generation runs entirely in your browser with no network request and nothing uploaded anywhere.
